“Relatively small in numbers, very big in service and outstanding in fellowship: that's the Rotary Club of Vancouver Sunrise. Although we number only about 25 members, our club is very active in providing service to the local and worldwide communities.
Like all Rotary Clubs we also have our own social events including:
- Christmas dinner
- Changeover dinner
- Guess who is coming to dinner
- A day at the races
Community & International Causes We Support
Seniors
Here in Vancouver, we work with a large seniors' group in the downtown West End and serve hundreds of seniors an annual Christmas dinner in the ballroom of a major hotel.
Youth
We have an ongoing relationship with an inner city high school, where we offer university scholarships to deserving students annually and also participate in mentoring programs and career counseling for students exploring the world of work. We send students from this high school to Rotary-sponsored retreats for developing leadership and career skills.
In the past few years, we have organized a "Hoop-a-Thon" to help finance the sports programs of an inner-city community center and its at-risk youth members.
International Initiatives
Internationally, Vancouver Sunrise is an ongoing contributor to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International and its work in eradicating polio worldwide, among its many worthwhile initiatives.
Over the years we participated in many international projects, including, assisting 3 impoverished rural villages in South Africa, equipping a centre for training caregivers who serve Down Syndrome youth in central Mexico, sending used fire trucks to areas of San Salvadore,- help support the training of police women in Afghanistan and sponsored a new club in the Ukrain- We are currently in the process of selecting the next international project to be implemented over the next few years.
